Brewer & Shipley - Weeds (1969)

Brewer & Shipley are an American folk-rock duo, originally formed in the late 60s.

Folk-rock duo Brewer & Shipley left L.A. in 1969, moving back home to the Midwest. They were subsequently dropped from A&M Records and signed a new deal with Kama Sutra. For their second album they went to the San Francisco Bay area to record. Weeds was produced by singer-songwriter Nick Gravenites, and featured among many backing musicians guitarist Mike Bloomfield, keyboardists Nicky Hopkins and Mark Naftalin, bassist John Kahn, steel guitarist Red Rhodes and fiddler Richard Greene. The songs were mostly originals, though the highlights of the album were actually its two covers, the first a great version of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" and the second Jim Pepper's "Witchi-Tai-To". Released in 1969, the album was a modest success, and helped to increase their fanbase.
