Baez's second album came out in 1961, following in the footsteps of her successful debut from the year before. Like its predecessor, Joan Baez, Vol. 2 consisted of traditional folk songs sung to her solo guitar accompaniment (including "Lily Of The West", "Old Blue" and "Wagoner's Lad"). The one exception was the last song, the 18th century French love song "Plaisir d'Armour" (she had closed her debut with a foreign-language song in the same way). Also, on two songs she was backed by the bluegrass group The Greenbriar Boys, who provided banjo and vocal harmonies.
Like the first album, Vol. 2 went Gold, and peaked at #13 on the album chart.
