Donovan - Mellow Yellow (1967)

Donovan is a British singer-songwriter, who in the 60s emerged from the British folk scene to become a psychedelic pop icon.

The massive success of the "Sunshine Superman" single (and its groundbreaking follow-up album) had seen Donovan move from being a folk singer-songwriter to a psychedelic pop star. It was followed by the "Mellow Yellow" single, released in October 1966 in the US (but delayed until 1967 in the UK). An infectiously catchy (if somewhat empty) pop song, it was a top ten hit on both sides of the Atlantic (#2 US, #8 UK), and another big step in Donovan's career.
The album of the same name came out in March 1967 in the US. Another Mickie Most production (also featuring arrangements from John Paul Jones), it expanded further on the range of sounds Donovan was now exploring, moving around through folk, jazz, pop, rock and psychedelia, all tied together through his unique vocal delivery. It was another success, getting to #14.
However, like its predecessor, the album wasn't actually released in the UK due to contractual disputes. A UK cross-section of the two albums was later released in June.
