Graham Nash - Songs For Beginners (1971)

Graham Nash is an English singer-songwriter, best known for being a member of The Hollies and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Graham Nash's music career began as a member of The Hollies, a successful English pop / rock band formed in the 60s. However after a few years he began to feel confined by his role in the group, and moved to America where he met kindred spirits in David Crosby and Stephen Stills. The three of them became folk-rock's first supergroup, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and were soon joined by Neil Young as a fourth member.
After the massive success of CSNY's Deja Vu album in 1970, all four members went on to release solo records. For Nash, it was a chance for him to prove himself as a singer-songwriter in his own right without the confines of a group situation or having to work alongside his other high-profile bandmates. As his material with CSNY had suggested, his solo sound proved to be mellow, introspective and accessible (in contrast to Crosby's more abstract and difficult If I Could Only Remember My Name). Songs For Beginners came out in 1971, and made it to #15 on the album charts. Backing him was a cast of other famous artists and high profile session guys - Dallas Taylor (drums), Johnny Barbata (drums), Chris Ethridge (bass), Fuzzy Samuels (bass), Phil Lesh (bass), Jerry Garcia (pedal steel, piano), Neil Young (piano), Dave Mason (guitar), David Crosby (guitar), Rita Coolidge (background vocals, piano), David Lindley (violin) and Bobby Keys (sax). Nash himself played acoustic guitar, piano and organ.
