Axton's second album on Capitol Records, Country Anthem followed in the footsteps of its fantastic predecessor from the same year, Joy To The World. It featured the same mix of rootsy genres, leaning a little bit further towards country (as the title suggests), and overall being a bit more laid back and mellow. Standout tracks include a cover of Hank Williams' "Jambalaya (On The Bayou)" and the brilliant original "Officer Ray", where he fused some splendidly arranged music with some clever humour. However despite such high points, it could be argued that it falls short of the standard set by Joy To The World.
