Hat, Davey Graham's fifth LP (and fourth vocal album), was perhaps his most diverse to date, as alongside his usual mix of folk, blues, jazz and dazzling genre-blending instrumentals, it had nods towards contemporary songwriters, with covers of songs by The Beatles ("Getting Better"), Bob Dylan ("Down Along The Cove") and Simon & Garfunkel ("Homeward Bound", "I Am A Rock"). These more 'commercial' moments are of course balanced out by more complex shades of world and classical music, making it the fourth in a series of extraordinary (and sadly overlooked) albums. As before, his guitar playing has the perfect accompaniment in Danny Thompson's acoustic bass.
